Politics - Modern Artist
Politics is the artistic identity of Colombian-born, Miami-based artist Daniel Acero. With a background in product design, his practice explores painting, sculpture, material, and the relationship between art and the spaces we inhabit.
At the foundation of his practice is oil painting. Working primarily through abstraction, Politics uses color, movement, layered brushwork, and shifting forms to create compositions that balance structure with spontaneity. His paintings often move between recognizable and ambiguous forms, allowing the viewer to develop a personal interpretation rather than presenting a fixed narrative.
Influenced by abstraction, Impressionism, Expressionism, and Cubism, his work explores atmosphere, memory, identity, and emotion. Some paintings remain rooted in the traditional canvas, where oil, gesture, color, and texture become the primary language of the work. Others evolve beyond the flat surface, introducing dimensional elements that blur the boundaries between painting and sculpture.
This experimentation has become a defining part of his artistic language. Wood, plaster, concrete, fabric, recycled materials, and sculptural surfaces allow the work to interact differently with light and perspective, creating pieces whose character changes as the viewer moves around them.
The relationship between artwork and environment has become another important extension of his practice. Politics works with private collectors, interior designers, architects, developers, and hospitality partners to place existing works and develop site-responsive pieces for distinctive spaces.
Rather than creating artwork simply to match an interior, he considers the architecture, scale, light, materiality, and studies of the space while preserving the individuality of the artwork.
